If Cephus or Peter had a wife and the other Apostles why can't the Priests get married?

(1 Corinthians 9:5) We have authority to lead about a sister as a wife, even as the rest of the apostles and the Lord鈥檚 brothers and Ce鈥瞤has, do we not?

Even Jesus brothers were married.

If the Bible teaches this is what we are supposed to do,then why does the Church forbid it? The Bible says that it is an option but it is never forbidden. If Cephus or Peter had a wife and the other Apostles why can't the Priests get married?
Priestly celilbacy was not made a rule until the 12th century, essentially to resolve some practical problems at the time - see link below. If Cephus or Peter had a wife and the other Apostles why can't the Priests get married?
Jesus asked the apostles to leave all they knew behind, telling them to go out two by two with nothing more than a simple outfit and sandals and preach. Jesus had no flesh and blood brothers. It was thought that celibacy would focus priests on the flock, not having families of their own. It may not work today, but it is a good idea for many men and women who aspire to greater thoughts and fewer worries than sexual entanglements provoke.
It was a choice the Catholic church made. The ';higher ups'; determined that having a wife and children would take away from them keeping their eyes and thoughts fully devoted to God alone.

Paul said he wished that all men would choose to remain unmarried as he did, because once a man has taken a wife his thoughts are turned towards her.

To the best of my knowledge there is no Biblical reason other than the reasoning I just explained.
Gina,

In the time of Moses and Aaron, Aaron and his sons being the first priests, they were married some of them. What happened is that when Jesus came and some of His disciples were already married, but left everything to follow Christ. Remember Jesus cured Peter's mother in law from the fever. As the disciples went and preached the gospel, many took from Jesus a vow of poverty, chasity and purity. Although Eastern Orthodox priest can marry, some don't'. For the Catholic Church its a vow to take to live as Christ lived and that was to devote all they had to Him. Many Saints, such as St. Francis, St. Augustine, all devoted themselves to the service of God. When men enter into the Catholic faith and become priest they vow to live a life such as for Christ only. A man can be married, but if his wife dies, he can become a priest. However, if you are a Priest first, you cannot marry. This is cannon law as handed down by Scripture. to live a life like Christ you sacrifice all things to be a priest.
Peter and the other Apostles basically left their wives to preach the gospel, Jesus even says those who give up children, wives, riches whatever will gain a hundredfold in Heaven---much like Job.

The priest is to be married to the Church ---they stand in for Christ. How can they give everything to his Church without short changing his wife?
Man made rule by the roman catholics.

here are some other man made things not found in the bible:

Purgatory- man made safety net

Pray to Mary- bible says pray to God alone

Pray rosaries- bible says don't pray repetitively

Water baptism washes away original sins

Confess to a man in a booth- pray to God, your priest won't be next to you on judgment day.

good works will save you- our good works are filthy rags in God's eye's

Read the bible for yourself
Good question. I don't believe the New testament teaches we should have priests lord over us. We have a high priest that is Christ (Heb 4:14) and we Christians are priests (1 Pet 2:9). We can approach God all by ourselves. There is no need for another man between us and God because Christ is that one and only mediator (1 Tim 2:5).
Because as the church matures they have new ideas and rules, in the bible people had relations with many people but it's considered a sin now, it's all about who's in charge and how they feel towards things
The reason that the RCC doesn't allow marriage of priests is because they don't want them to will their possessions and money to their family. They want them to leave everything to the RCC.
simply put, the RCC corrupts and changes Everything that God has made, they are contradictory/countefeiters (as satan is as well) hmmmm...hence Revelations....God Bless
So they can have sex with children without committing adultery.
exactly !!!!!!! and we see what it leads to don't we ?? It says a man MAY not marry, IF he feels the need not to....... IF he wants to or needs to he should.......... point blank...... go in peace...... God bless
Luke 14:26.

Better to keep such people away from family altogether.
Because some nuns are hot
It is only the Roman Church that forbids it.

Very fair question.
