If married in a different state then where you live, where do you seek a divorce if you need one?

You go to the state you were married in or the state you live? Which divorce laws will effect you the state you were married or where you live?If married in a different state then where you live, where do you seek a divorce if you need one?
You should file for divorce in the state where you reside...doesn't matter what state you were married in.If married in a different state then where you live, where do you seek a divorce if you need one?
there are residency requirements. you can go to your county courthouse or even look online in the state you live in to find out residency requirements. some counties require you to not live with the person (separation period) for x amount of days or to undergo counseling while the divorce is going on. most attorneys will give you a ';freebie'; visit and you can ask them what the residency requirements are.
You file in the state that you are a legal resident of. The divorce laws of that state are ones that will effect you.

if you reside in a no fault state you're lucky. I lived in NY-it's STILL a fault state......with specific criteria on what situation merits a divorce....it used to be adultery or fraud only.....been slightly expanded now.
The state that you live in provided you have lived in that state around 6 months. Each state has laws which establish residency. I've been told it's around 6 months.

The state you marry in is totally irrelevant.
You can divorce in either your state of residency or the state you married in. I married in Alabama, divorced in Mississippi where I live.
