Why do people bragg about being married X amount of years?

What do you get some kind of medal or award?





10 years = a cookie


20 years = maybe a PS3

Its not always necessarily bragging. Sometimes its just a statement. And as the others have said, why not brag? Its very rare anymore for a marriage to last for years. Having been married for awhile, Ive watched numerous other couples make it one, two three years, sometimes not even make it a year. Having the strength and determination, as well as the deep love it takes to make a marriage last is a very admirable thing. Its always easier to give up and walk away than to fight it out and make it last.
It is not bragging it is being proud because being married is a lot of hard work and having kids, even more work. it's 24/7. It's not all fun. Some days are tiring than others. But if two people work so hard every day to stay strong, why would YOU think that is such a bad thing if we say how long we have been married? If all marriage is a walk in the park, then no one would brag about how long they have been married. Especially with the divorce rate going up.





They only thing I can think of why YOU would ask such a question is perhaps, maybe you are jealous?
Um, because it's a huge accomplishment. Relationships aren't easy, they take work. If you've had a successful job for, say, 25 years wouldn't you be proud of that? It's an accomplishment, and the rewards of a happy marriage are worth much more than baked goods, video game consoles, and any expensive vehicle. Good luck.
Because it's the hardest phucking thing to do stay married. Obviously you have not been a long term relationship to understand.
Because these days it is unheard of to even make it 10 years. Divorce is too easy. At least give a batch of cookies (not just one) to the people who make it 10 years! lol
I I used to say whoopteedoo!...I'd take 3 great weeks over 20 miserable years anyday. When they brag, I ask them what the marriage has survived. What comes after that is what impresses me.

I like hearing people brag about being married for a long time. It is nice to hear that there are people that have taken the long term commitment seriously...12 years and still going for me!
