In the history of America, how long have gays desired to be married?

Why have we just started hearing about it the last 5-10 yrs? You heterosexuals out there, why haven't you been fighting for it earlier too as you are now?





Has something changed that made gays decide they want to get married through the state? Have they always desired to be married?

Homosexuals and Bisexuals were ignored in the 1950s, if they came out they were beaten and sodomized.

gays have always wanted to get married...you hear about it now because homosexuality has become fairly mainstream and those who were scared to express themselves before arent nearly as frightened anymore. And, conversely, the more people that admit their sexuality, the more nut jobs open their mouths and try to fight it down...its a ripple effect, since it is becoming a hot button issue, more people are forced to form an opinion. And when lots of people form lots of opposing opinions there becomes a power struggle.
The war of homosexuality has been one of the repeated lie, and incrementalism. If anyone suggested gay marriage 10 years ago, they would have been laughed out of town.





But repeat the lie that homosexuality is a lifestyle and not a sin and sooner or later, you will have duped enough people that you can push the boundries back a little farther, They just pushed to soon. A tactical error on their part, now they have to deal with constitutional amendments.
Well, you have only started hearing about it because people were Horrified at the idea of someone being gay, let alone wanting equal rights.





They have been beaten, murdered, discriminated against...why would they march down the street in 1940? They would have been asking for a nightmare response.





We are coming around to this idea as a nation (although way to slowly). So, I bet they feel a lot safer coming out.
I'd guess that they have always wanted to be married, but since this country was over-run with bible thumping ignorant fu*ks for so long, it didnt seem like a good idea to go public with it. (you know, the threat of death and all...) Now that people are starting to see that religion is foolish, they are more accepting of peoples lifestyle choices and dont hate them because a 2000 year old book says to.
I tend to think that since society has become more accepting because homosexuals have slowly become unashamed of their sexual orientation. Gays most probably have always existed, it's just in the past 5-10 years that they've 'come out of the closet'.
In the last 10 years,I have saw Satan come into more people


than I can count,,they gladly tell us they are gay,,they deny the very God who made them,,and in the last 5 years they want


to marry,but God ordained marriage between a man and woman,
I have always wondered why someone defines themselves by who they sleep with. Is there not more to a person then who they sleep with? Why are people defined by their sexual orientation instead of who they are. Why can we not just be people why place labels on everyone?
Because they had to first obtain the rights to live openly as a gay person before thinking of the next step which is the right to marriage and for a couple to be seen in the same light as a hetero couple.
they finally have the acceptance to push for their full rights

Maybe the fact that they were ostricized and beat up by the public may have a small affect....

Don't know. God says they can't marry. That's good enough for me. Evern if every state decides to let them ';marry'; their ceremony will only be a make-believe sham, not marraige.
I'm sure since the institution of marriage was invented there was a gay person who wanted to do the same with someone they loved

Probably as long as there have been gays. Remember they only came out of the closet in the last 10 to 15 years.
