If you file joint taxes with your spouse and are you not married, are you then married?

Even though we are not together my ';wife'; is unable to fully enroll in school because according to the government we are married. If you file joint taxes with your spouse and are you not married, are you then married?
Have you been living together for a certain amount of time? Different states automatically change your status to common law if they catch that, in order for people not to scam the system. She may not be your wife by law, but she might be your common law partner, which carries the same tax responsibilities.

Check your local state lawsIf you file joint taxes with your spouse and are you not married, are you then married?
Maybe you should call the IRS for advice.Make sure you tell them you have been getting tax credits for being married and never said I Do and see what they think. If your wife cannot enroll in school cause she's married and you have no recollection of your wedding day you may need to start searching public records to gather her past endeavors for current decisions
You can only file jointly if you are married. Filing jointly does not make you married.
If you're not married, you can't file joint taxes with your spouse, because you have no spouse.
