You'll almost surely pay less tax total between you if you file a joint return. You are allowed to both file as married filing separately if you want to though. My wife and I were married July '08. I make 50 and she 20. Do we file joint or seperate for out taxes?
You have a choice to go both ways. Try both ways and see which way you pay taxes less. You can run off the shelf tax software such as tubotax or taxcut find it easy. It may cost you around $40. But if you go to tax preparation companies they will charge you over $100 easily.
Please consult a lawyer about this topic, you definitely want professional advice
Try both ways, but most of the time a joint return is better.
My hubby and I have always filed jointly. You get a greater deduction.
If you file seperately you could probably get more back.
